Home Learning Toolkit - August Newsletter

Dear Home Learning Toolkit Participants,

As summer winds down and we prepare for the back-to-school season, August is the perfect time to soak up the last days of summer fun and learning. Here are some exciting activities to enjoy with your children this month.

Parenting Tip

Establish a Routine: With the upcoming school year, now is the time to start setting up daily routines. Gradually adjust bedtime, mealtime, and study habits so that the transition back to school is smooth for everyone.

Activities for August

  • DIY Water Play: Beat the summer heat with some water-based activities. Set up a sprinkler in the yard, create a mini water park with buckets and hoses, or have a water balloon fight. It's a great way to cool down and get active.

  • Back-to-School Crafts: Get ready for the new school year by making personalized school supplies. Decorate notebooks, create pencil holders, or make a custom calendar to track important dates. It helps children feel excited and prepared for school.

  • Outdoor Movie Night: Set up a projector and screen or simply use a blank wall for an outdoor movie night. Choose a family-friendly film, make some popcorn, and enjoy a cozy evening under the stars.

Self-Care for Parents

Take Time for Yourself: As you prepare for the busy back-to-school season, remember to carve out time for yourself. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a walk, or enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, a few moments of self-care can recharge your energy and keep you balanced.

Fun Fact

August was originally named Sextilis in the Roman calendar, as it was the sixth month of the year. It was later renamed in honor of Augustus Caesar, the first Roman emperor, who chose the month because several of his greatest triumphs occurred during this time.
